President's viewpoint

Five years ago, the HRPLD saw an opportunity to create an award that would celebrate the tremendous work done by HR professionals in our local area.

The London Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement awards are the largest event of its type in the province, boasting over 1000 participants at their annual gala event.  The Human Resources Award of Excellence is fast becoming a traditional part of this event. HRPLD is proud to have founded not only the concept but also to provide the support behind the machine which has produced four previous recipients.  They include: Lerner LLP, Teletech Inc., Rogers Cable and Ernst & Young.

This year, the award criteria has been streamlined to celebrate the importance of those companies who practice excellence in human resources in order to counteract and respond proactively to the reality of labour shortages.

Businesses will need to adopt proactive approaches to recruitment, retention and recognition of their workforces, regardless of their size. We believe the small and medium enterprises (SME's) utilize progressive recruitment and retention practices, with minimal resources in place, and that they should be recognized and celebrated for these efforts.

We would like you to consider being a nominee or nominating an organization for the Excellence in Human Resources Award. The deadline for receiving nominations is November 2, 2007 by 4 p.m. and the nomination can be posted:

Winners of this prestigious award have reaped benefits for their company which surpasses the event's recognition.

Once the nominations close, each nominee will receive and complete an information questionnaire. The deadline for submitting the questionnaires is December 7, 2007.  The HRPLD has streamlined the process for all nominating companies, for ease of participation.

It is considerably easier to pen the words "our people are our greatest asset" in company brochures, than it is to have these words take form through every day HR practices.  This is the essence of the quest for this year's recipient of the Excellence in Human Resources Award.

We look forward to receiving your nominations.

President,
